Logistical challenges

The plant needed to move trolleys weighing up to 1,000 kg from the raw materials store to workstations along the assembly line. Manual transport caused delays, posed safety risks and made it difficult to maintain a constant flow of materials in sync with production. It was essential to ensure precise deliveries and a continuous supply of components without human intervention.

Logistical challenges

The plant needed to move trolleys weighing up to 1,000 kg from the raw materials store to the workstations along the assembly line.

Manual handling caused delays, posed safety risks and made it difficult to maintain a steady flow of materials in step with production.

It was essential to ensure accurate deliveries and a continuous supply of components without human intervention.

Solution implemented

Orbel Ingeniería introduced autonomous tow tractors guided by a magnetic strip, capable of safely managing the delivery of trolleys.

Operators on the production line generated orders using barcode scanners when stock was running low. The system’s fleet manager automatically generated a task for the automated guided vehicle (AGV), instructing it to collect an empty trolley and deliver a trolley full of raw materials to the relevant station, ensuring a constant and efficient flow.

Results

A system has been implemented that allows operators to request restocking directly using a barcode scanner, ensuring that there is never a shortage of materials on the production line.
