Logistical challenges

The plant was facing the challenge of managing components with highly unusual shapes and sizes. As a manufacturer of industrial equipment, it handled parts that could be over 5 or 6 metres long and extremely heavy. With the expansion of its product range, the company needed to increase its storage capacity without allowing the large dimensions of its components to become an obstacle to order and efficiency within the factory.

When manufacturing industrial equipment, I handled parts that could be over 5 or 6 metres long and very heavy.

As its product range expanded, the company needed to increase its storage capacity without the critical dimensions of its components becoming an obstacle to order and efficiency in the factory.

Solution implemented

Orbel Ingeniería installed a cantilever racking system, specifically designed for long or bulky products that do not fit on standard pallets. This solution makes it possible to utilise the height of the warehouse to store very long items safely. In addition, shelves with and without support bases were combined to adapt with complete flexibility to the variety of weights and volumes of the components, facilitating their direct handling.

Results

The implementation of the storage system has led to a significant improvement in the utilisation of storage areas and has drastically reduced the time needed to move larger parts. By optimising the layout of materials, unnecessary movements around the plant have been minimised, ensuring that components reach the assembly area much more quickly and directly.
